A restaurant POS does far more than print the bill. It is where every order starts, where the kitchen gets its instructions and where the day’s numbers come from. This guide goes through the questions worth asking about any POS, and shows how Kappino POS handles each one, from the first tap to the sale in your reports.
1. Does it handle every way you sell?
Most restaurants sell in more than one way: at the table, at the counter, for takeaway and for delivery. Kappino POS has four order types you switch between at the top of the screen: dine-in, counter, takeaway and delivery.
- Counter orders need no table and no guest details, and they get their own line in your revenue reports.
- Takeaway orders carry a pickup time.
- Delivery addresses are found with address search and a map pin, and customer autocomplete fills in returning guests.
2. Does the kitchen get everything it needs?
An order is only as good as the ticket the kitchen receives. In Kappino you can assign the guest’s seat, add extras, remove or swap ingredients, add a note to each dish and number the lines so the kitchen knows what to make first.
Send to kitchen fires the order to the kitchen display or the kitchen printer as a digital Kitchen Order Ticket (KOT), without taking payment. Extras, removals, notes, the seat and the preparation order all travel with it.
3. What happens when the order changes?
Guests change their minds after the order has gone in. In Kappino you can edit an order after Send to kitchen, and only the new lines are sent. Dishes that are already cooking keep their status, and the added dishes are marked as added on the kitchen ticket.
You can also hold a ticket and resume it later on any terminal, so a server can start an order on a tablet and a colleague can finish it at the counter.
4. Is VAT calculated for you, dish by dish?
Menu prices in Kappino are VAT-inclusive. Each dish carries its rate for dine-in and counter and its rate for takeaway and delivery, so the right rate is applied for the order type. One bill can carry several rates, and every receipt shows a per-rate VAT breakdown.
The bill is generated in one tap, with the cover charge and any percentage or fixed discount applied for you. The cover charge (coperto) is set per dine-in guest and left off takeaway and delivery orders automatically.
5. How are payments recorded?
Kappino records how a bill was paid: cash, card, QR code, mobile wallet or online payment, with the amount tendered and the change for cash. Card payments are taken on your existing card terminal, which Kappino works alongside; Kappino itself does not process card payments.
Bills can be split equally, by item or by hand on dine-in, counter and takeaway orders, and each share is collected separately. Our guide to split bills and receipts goes through it step by step.
6. What does the receipt look like?
Kappino prints 80 mm receipts with a VAT summary. You can print a pre-bill for the table or for each split account, or email the receipt to the guest straight from the payment screen.
7. Which devices does it run on?
Kappino runs in the browser on iPad, Android tablets, Windows PCs and Macs, so you can use devices you already have, and the Kappino app is on the App Store and Google Play. Servers can take orders at the table on a tablet and pick up held tickets on any terminal.
Because the POS runs in the browser, it needs an internet connection. A desktop app with an offline mode is in development.
8. Can you control who does what?
A roles and permissions matrix lets you decide what each role can see and do, module by module. A server might take orders and close their own tables; a manager can apply discounts, void dishes with a reason and view sales reports; only the owner has full access to financial summaries and settings. You can limit users to the branches they work in, and sign out lost or shared devices from device and session management.
9. Do sales reach your reports straight away?
Every sale updates the live dashboard the moment it is paid: revenue, covers, average check and best-sellers. Reports compare dine-in, counter, takeaway and delivery, show your peak hours and track the average check per cover as the service goes on. There is nothing to re-key at the end of the night.
10. Does it work across several locations?
Each branch can have its own menu, prices, floor plan and staff setup. The owner can switch between branches or view them all together for a combined view of revenue and operations.
11. Does it meet your country’s fiscal rules?
Kappino supports country-specific fiscal requirements, including TSE-signed receipts under the KassenSichV in Germany and electronic receipts through a registratore telematico (RT) in Italy. The Kappino team confirms the right fiscal setup for your country during onboarding.
12. How long does it take to get started?
The Quick Setup wizard walks you through nine steps, from language and country to menu, tables, riders and staff, with CSV templates for bulk import and email invitations for your team. Every step can be skipped and picked up later. New accounts start with a 14-day free trial, so you can run real service before you choose a plan.
